If you aren’t financing the purchase with a mortgage, you should organise your own survey. Your surveyor should be a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, or the Incorporated Society of Valuers and Auctioneers.
There are three types of surveyor’s report, depending on the level of detail required: The Mortgage Valuation, The Homebuyer Survey & Valuation or a Building Survey (formerly called a Structural Survey). For more details see the RICS website.
